Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the top-streamed track within 6 months. The song was a mix of reggaeton and pop that not only drew attention to Latin Music, but also reggaeton. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs which were Spanish predominantly, as well as four songs in the year 2016. In 2017, at the height of popularity for Despacito the track was one of 19 that mainly Spanish made it to the Billboard Top 100. By 2020 it will have 41 songs that fall into this category. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with a Spanish-language version in 2017 shortly after which the most well-known artists began collaborating with reggaeton artists. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny to create MIA (2018) and Madonna collaborated on Medellin together with Maluma (2019). A few performers of reggaeton lamented the trend towards mainstream music in 2020. A new group, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the growth and evolution of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music, and other styles was a common procedure.
